Milo's Pawkery

In 2024, Milo’s Pawkery was born out of the desire to find better nutritional options for our beloved Milo. After trying countless products on the market, we realized that most organic biscuits didn’t offer the level of nutrition or high-quality ingredients that our canine friends deserve.

Seeing the positive results in Milo’s health after introducing homemade biscuits, our friends and family began asking us to bake for their pets too. What started as a personal project soon turned into a full-fledged business!

We are passionate about growing this endeavor, ensuring that every dog can enjoy the same benefits Milo did.

What kind of cookies, snacks, or treats can I choose for my dog?

Choosing the right treats for your dog is an important part of their overall health and happiness! With so many options out there, it can feel a bit overwhelming, but focusing on a few key factors will help you make the best choices.

The Golden Rules for Healthy Treats:

When selecting any treat for your furry friend, keep these principles in mind:

  1. Prioritize Natural, Whole Ingredients: Look for treats made with ingredients you recognize, like real meats (chicken, beef, salmon), fruits (apples, blueberries, pumpkin), and vegetables (carrots, sweet potatoes). The shorter and more understandable the ingredient list, the better!
  2. Avoid Harmful Additives: Steer clear of artificial colors, flavors, preservatives (like BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin), excessive salt, and added sugars. These "empty calories" offer no nutritional value and can lead to digestive upset or long-term health issues.
  3. No Xylitol (Birch Sugar)! This artificial sweetener is highly toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. Always double-check ingredient labels, especially for peanut butter-based treats.
  4. Consider Your Dog's Needs:

At what stage can my dog eat treats, biscuits and/or solids?

All puppies are special and should be evaluated individually, but the health department offers different general ideas on this topic:

0 to 8 weeks: Mother’s milk is best

During the first weeks, mother’s milk is the perfect food. If the puppy is orphaned or needs supplementation, a special puppy formula is the best alternative.

8 to 12 weeks: Transitioning to solid food
At this age, you can start introducing puppy kibble softened with warm water. Choose high-quality brands with a high protein content and no unnecessary fillers.

3 to 6 months: Adjusting portions
At this stage, puppies can eat three times a day. It’s important to choose food appropriate for their breed and size, as nutritional needs vary depending on growth rate.

6 to 12 months: Preparing for adulthood
After six months, feeding frequency can be reduced to twice a day. Some small dogs may transition to adult food at around 9 months, while larger breeds take longer to develop and may need puppy food until 18 months.

can dog treats cause diarrhea?

It's a great question, and the short answer is yes, dog treats can cause diarrhea, but it's often due to specific factors rather than the treats themselves being inherently bad. Understanding these factors can help you keep your furry friend happy and healthy!

Here's why treats might sometimes lead to an upset tummy:

  • Overfeeding: Even the healthiest treats, given in excess, can disrupt your dog's digestive system.
  • Poor-quality Ingredients: Treats packed with artificial additives, fillers, or low-quality components can irritate a dog's sensitive stomach.
  • Food Sensitivities or Allergies: Just like humans, some dogs have sensitivities or allergies to certain ingredients, which can manifest as digestive issues.
  • Sudden Dietary Changes: Introducing any new food, including treats, too quickly can throw off your dog's digestive balance.
  • Expired or Contaminated Treats: Old or improperly stored treats can harbor harmful bacteria, leading to gastrointestinal problems.
  • Rich or Fatty Treats: High-fat treats can be difficult for some dogs to digest, potentially causing loose stools.
